PAVESTONE MEMORIALS for the
JENS RINGNESS PROJECT

Brandenbergers Check Out Ringness House Fence

Don and Alice Brandenberger recently met with Betty Tindall to look at the new split-rail yard fence surrounding the Jens Ringness House.  They also checked out the period windows and other improvements.  “This is so exciting to see the progress in restoring this house,” Alice enthusiastically stated, remembering things she and Don noticed about the house when they first moved to the property.  Don and Alice deeded the house to the Norwegian Society of Texas in December of 2000 along with a perpetual easement if the society could move the house in five years.  Although the task seemed at times insurmountable, we are all excited as the exterior part of the project is almost complete, and work on the interior of the building is ready to begin.  In gratitude for their generous donation and participation in the preserving this piece of Norwegian heritage in the Norse area, the local chapter has granted the Brandenbergers honorary membership in the Bosque County Chapter of NST.  We look forward to continued cooperation with them and their family in this project.

Construction requires the removal of some of the dirt in the interior of the house to allow room for floor joists, in preparation for laying floors on the ground floor.  In the meantime, the committee is searching for appropriate period doors, side panels, and transoms for the entrances to the central hall.  Next steps include gathering bids for materials for flooring and some plastering that needs to be completed inside the building.  As work switches to the interior of the house, the front porch can begin completion with railings and decorative woodwork.  The planting of an oak tree in the northeast side of the yard is also planned for the near future.

Recently, the Jens Ringness House board met to set goals of completion of the Memory Walk by early Fall.  This event will be celebrated with invitations to all who have donated pavestones, members of the Bosque County Chapter, and any and all interested friends and neighbors. We have presently sold 75 pavestones, and are ready to complete our first order.  There is still time for others to purchase pavestones to memorialize ancestors, family members, or donors.  Below is a list of the names that have been submitted for pavestones.  Please read the list carefully and contact Betty Tindall (597-2478) if you find omissions or corrections that need to be made.  In some cases, there are more than one pavestone dedicated to the same person, and you may want to make changes to memorialize others.  Again, just let Betty know; changes can still be made.
