To those in the past...
Bosque County Chapter of the Norwegian Society of Texas only officially began January 18, 1997. But our roots go back to 1854 when the first settlement in Bosque County was started. Cleng Peerson, the "father of Norwegian immigration," first came to Texas in 1849 and we proudly honor him and the fact that his final resting place is in the Norse Cemetery. One of our ancestors, Johan Nordboe, settled south of Dallas in 1838 and is recognized as the first permanent Norwegian settler in Texas. Another was Johan Reinert Reierson who settled in Normandy, Henderson County, in 1845.
Bosque County Norwegian descendants have a long and honorable history and as a Chapter we proudly seek "To Enjoy, Preserve and Promote our Norwegian Heritage." We hold in highest esteem and honor our ancestors and the first Norwegian settlers in Bosque County:

Without their sacrifices, diligent labor, respect for home, community and Christian education, we could not enjoy, preserve and promote our Norwegian heritage.
