NORSE - Official Logo of the Bosque County Chapter

The Heart of Our Heritage...

Our Saviour's Lutheran Church - well known as the Norse Church - is seen in its setting of native Live Oak trees in the Official Logo of the Bosque County Chapter of the Norwegian Society of Texas. This 1869 church was not only the center of Lutheran worship for our ancestors, but also served as the gathering place for most social events such as weddings and family reunions. It was truly the centerpiece of the Norwegian community - and still is.

In the foreground is the Cleng Peerson Monument that was erected over his grave in 1886. Cleng is recognized as the most important Norwegian personage from this area. This was borne out as a fact by the royal visit of King Olav of Norway in October of 1982. There is a brass plaque at the base of the monument commemorating the royal visit on Cleng's 200th birthday.

And the bluebonnets!!! This is bluebonnet country! All Norwegians, past and present, appreciate the abundance of our state flower here in our hill country.

Because of Charles Stokley (late husband of member Mary Ann Stokley) from the Mustang Community near Cranfills Gap, who sat down at his "computer easel" and painted this beautiful electronic piece of art - we have our logo.

The membership of the Logo Committee included:
Chairman Larry Huse, Doris Werner, Vera Cooper, Elaine Bakke Bell, and Ruth Shipley.
